Semis and some leftovers

Brookstone and Pacelli have both advanced to the semifinals for the first time in a while.

The Cougars won the 1981 state title. The quarterfinals has been where the Vikings have stumbled the last couple of years.

Pacelli will host Providence Christian on Monday with the doubleheader starting at 3 p.m, while Brookstone will travel to Fairburn, Ga., to play Landmark Christian.

Providence Christian swept Telfair County on Tuesday. Landmark Christian swept Lanier County.

Columbus and Shaw will attempt to join them.

BLUE DEVILS SAVE STARTER

Most teams hope to have an average starter to pitch in Game 3. Columbus High will have more than that when it faces Cartersville today at 4:30.

Junior Matt Taylor has followed up his successful sophomore year with a solid junior year.

Taylor is 9-2 with his losses coming against Brookwood and Troup.

The lefty gives the Blue Devils a good chance. Cartersville also has a decent starter with Chris Huth slated to start.

"There will be two quality pitchers out there," Columbus coach Bobby Howard said. "So we'll see what happens."

It should be a good one.
